Mills Music Rental Program Value Advantage

100% Rent Credit

During the rental period 100% of your rental payments, less the instrument protection plan service fee and tax, may be used toward the purchase payoff of the originally rented instrument contract price, or toward the purchase of a step-up intermediate or professional version of the same instrument.

During the rental period your instrument is covered by our excellent Mills Music Instrument Protection Plan

In addition, during the rental, complimentary repair loaners are available for most instruments so your student does not have to miss music classes while you wait for repairs. There may be occasions when a loaner is not available, in which case we will expedite your repair to the front of the line.

Mills Music Rental Instrument Protection Plan

Under the Instrument Protection Plan, the Mills Music Repair Team will service your Rental Instrument maintaining it in good condition for the duration of the rental contract.

Instrument Protection Plan Conditions:

  • The instrument is presented in the case with all parts. Customer will be liable for replacement costs of any missing parts or accessories.
  • A comparable “loaner” instrument will be made available at no charge for the duration of repair based on availability. Repairs will be expedited on instruments when a suitable loaner is not available.
  • Loaner instrument must be returned within 14 days of notification of completed repair.
  • Willful or malicious damage to an instrument, as determined by the Mills Music Repair Department, is NOT covered.
  • Accidental damage, as determined by the Mills Music Repair Department, will be repaired to good playing condition. Please note, however, that instrument finishes carry no warranty.
  • Replacement instrument of similar quality and condition will be provided in the event the instrument was residing in a secure environment at home or school and loss is due to fire or theft (police and/or insurance report will be required).
  • Instruments deemed “lost” due to neglect such as being left on a bus, on a play-field, left unattended and unsecured, etc., will NOT be covered.
  • The Instrument Protection Plan is in effect providing the rental contract is current in regards to monthly rent and applicable fees, if any.
  • Customer acknowledges responsibility to properly handle and care for the instrument.
  • Repairs or modifications performed by anyone other than Mills Music, Inc. will nullify the Instrument Protection Plan.

    Mills Music Rental Loaner Policy

    Complimentary Repair Loaners are available for Mills Music Rental Customers

    If you are currently renting your instrument from Mills Music you may receive a complimentary loaner instrument (based on availability) so that your student does not have to miss music classes while you wait for your repairs. In some cases there may not be a loaner available. If a loaner is not available we will expedite your repair, ensuring that you get the fastest possible turn-around time, by moving your instrument to the front of the line.
    * If at all possible we strive to provide a complimentary loaner instrument when your rental needs a tune-up or repair. However, loaners may not be available for the following instruments:

    Orchestral Instruments – Orchestral String loaners will be granted based on limited availability. We cannot always provide a suitable loaner for Orchestral Instruments as they are often fractional sized to fit the individual student. But rest assured we will expedite your repair.

    We do not have loaners for the following instruments:
    Bassoon, Oboe, Piccolo, Alto & Bass Clarinet, Soprano & Bari Sax, Low Brass, String Bass, and Guitars.

    Rest assured we will certainly expedite your repair to the best of our ability. If your Mills Music sales associate cannot secure a loaner instrument for you, please ask them to contact our Repair Team Admin to expedite your repair.     A Complimentary Loaner Instrument May Be Issued If:

    • The instrument is currently on rent from Mills Music.

    A Complimentary Loaner Instrument May Not Be Issued If:

    • The instrument is not currently being rented from Mills Music.
    • The Mills Music rental contract shows outstanding balances due and the balance due is not brought up to date.
    • The instrument was originally purchased elsewhere.

      Mills Music Purchase Warranty Advantages

      The Mills Music Advantage – Warranty and Loaner Policy Applies To

      New and Used Mills Music Instrument Purchases and Rental Purchase Payoffs

      In addition to the manufacturer’s warranty* customers who purchase their instrument from Mills Music will receive:

      • A 30 Day Service Warranty and a Complimentary 30 Day Normal Service Adjustment.
      • A Complimentary Loaner Instrument If The Purchased Instrument Needs To Be In Our Shop For Repairs.
      • The complimentary loaner service is good for one year after the date of purchase or rental purchase payoff and based on availability.
      • Complimentary loaner service ends five (5) business days after you are notified that your repair is finished and ready for you to pick up at the Mills Music store location you specify.
      • Loaner instruments will be student line models in good playing condition.

      We do not have loaners available for the following instruments:

      Bassoon, Oboe, Piccolo, Alto & Bass Clarinet, Soprano & Bari Sax, Low Brass, String Bass, and Guitars. Orchestral String loaners will be granted based on limited availability.

    • Rest assured, if you purchased your instrument from Mills Music, we will certainly expedite your repair to the best of our ability.     • Mills Music is an authorized dealer and excellent service center for most brands of quality instruments. We welcome the opportunity to serve your repair and manufacturers’ warranty* needs. However, normal shop rates will apply to all instruments purchased from other companies regardless of make or model. Manufacturers’ warranties vary. Ask your sales associate for details.

      Mills Music Repair Loaner Rentals for Customer Owned Instruments

      Repair loaner rentals are available for non – Mills Music purchased instruments or for Mills Music purchased instruments of more than a year prior. Ask your Mills Music sales associate about terms and availability.

      Repair loaners are available for non – Mills Music purchased instruments at our standard repair loaner rates based on availability.

      Repair loaner instruments are rented for 30 days beginning the day you receive the loaner. Should the repair take longer than 30 days your automatically generated loaner “rental billing” will be adjusted to zero balance providing you had authorized the repair department to proceed with repairs when you received your loaner. Notify your sales associate of the billing.

      WOODWINDS: Good Playing Condition (PC) Repairs
      Include a 90 day warranty on parts, pads, and workmanship performed on that specific repair service.

      WOODWINDS: Mechanical Overhaul (OV) Repairs
      Include a complimentary 90 day normal service adjustment period and one year warranty on pads and workmanship performed on that specific repair service.

      New pad seats and newly balanced key mechanism regulations sometimes shift slightly during the first several weeks of playing (break in period) due to the new natural and synthetic materials used in the overhaul process. Therefore we recommend that our customers take advantage of the 90 day complimentary service adjustment even though there will typically be no apparent playability problems.
      Taking advantage of this complimentary fine tuning service during the first 90 days after a mechanical overhaul will stabilize your instruments performance and enhance your musical experience.

      BRASS Repairs
      Include a 90 day warranty on parts and workmanship performed on that specific repair service.

      Existing lacquer and plating finishes are not warranted during the repair process.
      We take every precaution to carefully protect and preserve the lacquer and plating finishes of every instrument. However, the lacquer and plating is a temporary protective coating applied to the brass and we have no control over the type of lacquer or lacquering and plating process used at the manufacturing facilities. Lacquer and plating wear and deterioration is a natural process during the life of an instrument.
      Old and, in some cases, even new lacquer and plating is susceptible to wear and damage during normal use and also during the repair process. In most cases where your instrument has been damaged, dented, and needs repair, it has already incurred lacquer or plating damage.

      We do provide refinishing services for customers who desire it.

      All warranty work must be performed in our shops. Any repairs or adjustment attempted by any other shop or person voids our warranty. Accidental damage, abuse, obvious poor care, or careless handling voids the repair warranty.

      Mills Music,Inc., Terms Of Rental

      • Mills Music, Inc., rents the within instrument to the customer from month to month. Customer agrees to pay the rent, which includes our Instrument Protection Plan and applicable tax, monthly on or before the due date; and, if not so paid, to return the instrument promptly to any Mills Music, Inc., location.
      • Customer may purchase the instrument at any time upon paying the contract purchase price thereof, plus tax, less the applicable rent and tax previously paid.
      • Customer may terminate the rental contract at any time. Termination conditions are:
        Rental contract is current to date and all late fees, if any, are paid in full.
      • Instrument is returned in good condition with all parts and accessories. Customer will be liable for replacement costs of any missing parts or accessories.
      • Instrument is returned before the next month’s rental payment due date.
      • The first three months rent is nonrefundable as stated on the front of the contract.
      • Instruments are inspected upon termination of contract.
      • If any payment is not made when due and if, within ten days after Mills Music, Inc., has sent notice by mail to the customer at the customer’s address shown herein, customer has not returned the same to Mills Music, Inc.’s place of business, customer shall be deemed to have converted the instrument to customer’s own use and shall then be liable to Mills Music, Inc., for the purchase price thereof less the applicable rent previously paid plus tax. It is the customer’s responsibility to inform Mills Music, Inc., of any change of address for the duration of this rental contract.
      • LATE FEE: If payment is received after the due date a late charge of $5.00 will be added.

      Instrument Protection Plan

      • Under the Instrument Protection Plan, Mills Music, Inc., will service the instrument maintaining it in good condition for the duration of the rental contract. Instrument Protection Plan conditions are:
      • The instrument is presented in the case with all parts. Customer will be liable for replacement costs of any missing parts or accessories.
      • A comparable “loaner” instrument will be made available at no charge for the duration of repair based on availability. Repairs will be expedited on instruments when a suitable loaner is not available.
      • Loaner instrument must be returned within 14 days of notification of completed repair.

        The Instrument Protection Plan is in effect providing rental contract is current in regards to monthly rent and applicable fees, if any.
      • Customer acknowledges responsibility to properly handle and care for the instrument.
      • Repairs or modifications performed by anyone other than Mills Music, Inc. will nullify the Instrument Protection Plan.
      • If the instrument rented is a piano it may NOT BE MOVED from the address shown herein without the written permission of Mills Music, Inc.
      • If customer should be in default Mills Music, Inc., may assign the amount due hereunder to a licensed collection agency for collection; in which case, the customer shall be obligated to pay the entire amount due, plus a sum as liquidation damages equal to the collection charges of the collection agency together with reasonable attorney’s fees and court costs (if any), plus interest of 12% per annum on the amount due hereunder.
      • Customer agrees to be bound as principal and not as surety, waiving presentment, demand, protest and notice of non-payment.
      • Instrument Return: Instrument must be returned on or before the due date to avoid paying another month’s rent. Failure to return rental items within ten days of due date, may result in criminal prosecution per RCW 9.45.06
