At Mills Music, we are committed to supporting music education in our local schools. Music performance helps our children learn teamwork, a keen sense of responsibility and self-discipline. Student musicians gain self-assurance and self confidence, and develop qualities and attitudes that stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives. No area of study does more than music performance to promote the total growth of our children. Music is basic to their education.

Whether you decide to rent or purchase an instrument, Mills Music will help you in your decision process. Clarinet This is the most popular woodwind instrument. It can plan both high and low notes. A band generally has more clarinets than any other instrument.	Flute, Piccolo The flute and piccolo are the highest of the woodwind instruments. The piccolo is about half the size of the flute. Both have an especially beautiful sound that can be light and happy, or quiet and calm.
Oboe The oboe is the oriental sounding member of the woodwind family and is much in demand in bands and orchestras.	Saxophone Also a very popular instrument. Saxophones come in various sizes and ranges. Even though made of brass, they are part of the woodwind family.
Trumpet, Cornet Trumpets are somewhat longer than cornets. These are the highest of the brass instruments. Players need a good sense of pitch.	Trombone This instrument sounds very brassy like the trumpet, but makes a lower sound. It gets the different sounds by using a slide. Very popular and usually in great demand. Players need a good sense of pitch.
French Horn This instrument has a lot of rolled up tubing. Lower sounding and more mellow than the trumpet, it is one of the most important instruments in the band.	Baritone This horn sounds much like the trombone, but is more mellow. It can play both melody and harmony.
Percussion One doesn't just play drums. There are many kinds of percussion instruments and students should learn to play them all. It takes as much study to become a percussionist as for any other instrument.
